Aimee Lou Wood Thanks ‘SNL’ Star for Flowers After ‘White Lotus’ Sketch

Aimee Lou Wood has shed light on the apology she says she received from Saturday Night Live after this week’s White Lotus-inspired parody.

After speaking out earlier this week about what she called a “mean and unfunny” sketch that aired on the NBC series Saturday night (“The White POTUS” swapped characters from season three of HBO’s Mike White-created vacation saga with President Trump, his family and members of his cabinet), Wood says the SNL star who portrayed her character, Sarah Sherman, has sent her flowers.

“Thank you for the beautiful flowers,” wrote Wood on her Instagram Stories. She tagged Sherman along with the holding-back-tears emoji, a bow and a heart.

Wood has been taking to Instagram since the sketch went viral, accusing the skit of “punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down.” Wood, who played the character of Chelsea on the White Lotus, clarified that it wasn’t Sherman’s fault (“Not hating on her, hating on the concept,” she wrote) but initially took issue with Sherman’s British accent and fake teeth (“The joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth not bad teeth,” she added).

“Yes, take the piss for sure — that’s what the show is about — but there must be a [more clever], more nuanced, less cheap way?” she wrote to her 2.9 million followers.

Wood had later said she received an apology from SNL, but didn’t clarify who the message came from. (THR went out to reps for SNL and Wood.)

In her post-finale interview about the White Lotus with The Hollywood Reporter, the Sex Education star, who had previously opened up about the fan response to her role and her teeth, touched on the overwhelming response to her beloved character, which included outrage over her poignant ending.

“It feels like today is the first new day that I’ve had in a very long time,” she said after the April 6 season finale. “Because this journey has felt so long — and the weekly thing, I love it, but it’s meant that I’m still in it. But now I feel like I’ve been released and it’s sad, but it’s also, like, I’m free to be Aimee again.”
