Penn Badgley is remembering his late Gossip Girl co-star Michelle Trachtenberg.
At the season 5 premiere of You, Badgley told E! News that her death was “really surreal” and “really saddening” while recalling her lively personality.
“What I remember of her is she was incredibly quick to laugh,” he said. “She was really joyous. We all have our ups and downs, our lights and shadows, but she had this — I mean, she was mature, but she had this childlike, joyous laugh.”
The You star admitted that he hadn’t crossed paths with Trachtenberg “in over a decade” and didn’t want “to claim to have known her well,” but that he’d continue to remember her as a “really pure heart.”
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor died in late February following complications of diabetes mellitus. She was 39.
Many of Trachtenberg’s Gossip Girl co-stars reacted to her death, with Blake Lively recalling the late star as “electricity” in an Instagram Story. Lively wrote, “You knew when she entered a room because the vibration changed. Everything she did, she did 200 percent. She laughed the fullest at someone’s joke, she faced authority head on when she felt something was wrong, she cared deeply about her work, she was proud to be a part of this community and industry as painful as it could be sometimes, she was fiercely loyal to her friends and brave for those she loved, she was big and bold and distinctly herself.”
Chace Crawford, who played Nate Archibald in the beloved high school drama, also posted an Instagram tribute post where he remembered Trachtenberg as “a force of nature and just so, so unapologetically funny and magnetic.”
