Gillian Anderson is teasing whether she would return for Ryan Coogler‘s planned X-Files reboot.
The actress who played Agent Dana Scully in the original series recently shared during an appearance on ITV1’s This Morning that she spoke to the Sinners filmmaker.
“I spoke to [Coogler], and what I said was, ‘If anyone were to do it, I think you are the perfect person, and best of luck,’” Anderson said, adding that she told Coogler, “Call me.”
As for whether The Salt Path actress would genuinely consider returning for the reboot, Anderson kept her response vague, saying, “At some point, if the phone rings and it’s good and it feels like the right time, perhaps.”
The X-Files followed two FBI Agents, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) the believer and Dana Scully the skeptic, as they investigate the strange and unexplained, while hidden forces work to impede their efforts. The Emmy-winning series initially ran for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002, before it was revived for a 10th season in 2016 and an 11th season in 2018.
Coogler has been eyeing an X-Files reboot for years, with the show’s creator, Chris Carter, saying in 2023 that the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director is “going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast.”
More recently, Coogler said on The Last Podcast on the Left, “I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really fucking scary. We’re gonna try to make something really great, bro, and really be something for the real X-Files fans, and maybe find some new ones.”
