As it reworks its executive ranks post-bankruptcy and invests in growth, Regal Cineworld has hired a veteran entertainment executive for the newly created role of chief commercial officer.
Former Legendary Entertainment and Universal Pictures executive Adam Rymer was hired by the major theater chain to oversee the U.S. film and content team as well as oversee revenue growth in areas like box office, pricing, sales, loyalty and marketing, Regal said Thursday. He’ll report to CEO Eduardo Acuna, who joined the company in 2023 to succeed Moshe “Mooky” Greidinger.
“A lot of friends know I’ve been talking about the theatrical exhibition industry for a long time, especially the opportunities to evolve and grow,” Rymer noted in a post on LinkedIn. “As fate would have it, I’ve taken the opportunity to join Regal as Chief Commercial Officer where I’m very excited to work with a fantastic team and continue on their decades of success.”
Regal, Knoxville-based division of exhibitor Cineworld that’s one of the largest chains in the U.S., has been filling out its C-suite of late. In January, the chain hired Kelly Dowdy as chief digital and technology officer and Adam Snow as chief strategy officer. A month earlier, Regal secured a $1.9 billion Term B loan as part of a refinancing effort with a maturity date of December 2031. The chain’s move also includes a $350 million revolving credit facility.
Last year Regal pledged $250 million to give its theaters an upgrade and refurbish locations (420 theaters across the country as of December) with luxury recliners and other amenities. Cineworld had filed for bankruptcy in 2022 and emerged from that restructuring process a year later.
“Adam’s career to-date offers a rare blend of experience both within our industry and in adjacent industries that can lend something new to our business,” stated Acuna. “He’s bringing a different perspective to the company, one that will pair incredibly well with that of our leaders who have built Regal to this point.”
