Demi Lovato is revealing what it was like to reunite with the Jonas Brothers.
Following Sunday’s night kickoff to the Jonas Brothers‘ Jonas20: Greetings From Your Hometown Tour, which included a special reunion with Lovato, the singer is now explaining how “healing” that performance was in a recent interview on the Chicks in the Office podcast and how it came together.
“Joe just asked me last week, he was like, ‘Hey, what are you doing next weekend on the 10th? We would love to have you come and perform ‘This Is Me’ and ‘Wouldn’t Change a Thing.’ You’ve been a huge part of our journey and vice versa. This show is really important to us and we would love to have you there,’” the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer said. “It was so nice, and like I said, it was so healing for me too. We’ve been through so much together all of us, the Jonas Brothers and I, and it was really, really great to spend time with them.”
Joe, Kevin and Nick of the Jonas Brothers and Lovato starred in the 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie, Camp Rock, and it’s 2010 sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, where Joe and Lovato play love interests onscreen. The pair also dated in real life in 2010.
Lovato said that when Joe reached out, she instantly replied, “Let’s do this, because in this new era of mine too, I’m throwing it back to the memes and some of the things I’ve been posting have been really nostalgic. So this just fit in with everything that I’ve been doing,” she said. “And on top of that, it’s such a meaningful song to me — ‘This Is Me’ is my first big song that I’ve ever had. So, getting to perform that with them for the first time in God knows how many years was just so full circle and so special and it was great to see them.”
Besides the performance, Lovato shared that Joe, Nick and Kevin came backstage to spend time with her and her husband, which was “really meaningful.” Lovato married singer-songwriter Jordan “Jutes” Lutes in May.
As far as Lovato’s current projects, she released “Fast” on Aug. 1, which is her first single off of her upcoming ninth studio album.
